Pore Space and Storage Rights

In Louisiana, the underground pore space — about a mile deep — is typically owned by the surface landowner.

• For a project to move forward, we work with landowners to grant us underground storage rights in exchange for fair, market-based compensation.
• The potential to have CO₂ safely stored thousands of feet under their land provides landowners with a new income opportunity while allowing them to continue using the land for farming or other activities on the surface.
• Although Louisiana’s unitization laws allow projects to proceed once a certain percentage of landowners agree, our goal is always to reach mutually beneficial agreements with everyone.

Our agents have already reached out to thousands of landowners across multiple states to discuss our carbon capture and storage projects. They are trained to interact in good faith and with respect. If any landowner feels otherwise, we will address the issue quickly and fairly.
